In Final Fantasy 7, is it possible to get Omnislash on disc 1?
It's just before I go to the Gold Saucer for the keystone, and I have all 6 of clouds limit breaks and really want omnislash. All the guides I have seen recommend a ribbon and fully decked out equipment and materia (mastered materia, ultimate weapons etc).
Are all these necessary. Do you think I'd be able to do it with a level 40 cloud? Big guard / white wind should help a fair bit...

In short, it's possible but will be very, very difficult as some enemies, eg Tonberry, can kill you with one hit and it might be hard for you to knock off 30000 HP before they get that hit. Yes the main issues are requiring certain materia, weapons and items. Granted you can get away with not having mastered materias, but ribbon is pretty much a must have, as that allows you to stop the handicap reels on status effects without them working, effectively giving you a free round. Without that you will suffer every round, and be unlikely to make it through to the end (also, the most harmful effects, such as mini and frog, give you more BP in the end, making ribbon even more useful as it doesn't take points off for having it equipped). Other highly recommended things to have would be a final attack materia, linked to revive, as well as high level cure materia, slash-all, enemy skill, restorative items and a couple of good summons.
To get the omnislash on disc 1, regardless of when you try it, you'll need to get 51,200 BP. Needless to say, this will take some time as well as requiring you to stock up GP first (remember, BP disappears when you leave the battle square, so run out of GP and you'll have to start from 0 again). If you want to go for it then by all means do, and good luck to you. A tip for you; giving yourself the worst handicaps just before the last battle will earn you the highest BP eg get break all materia after battle 7 and should you win 8 then you'll get around 10000 BP.
