Why is there weird fog horn noises in the house?
There is this fog horn noise that you can hear through the whole house every couple of minutes. We're not sure if it's the water heater or the toilet. The noise usually lasts about 15 seconds and it just starts randomly.

You could have a bad valve somewhere in your plumbing system. The noise you hear is the valve ball or gate vibrating and transmitting this noise through the plumbing. Also check to see if the noise coincides with operating any appliances or fixtures such as a toilet, faucet, washer or dishwasher. The washer and dishwasher also have at least one solenoid valve, that could be going bad.
Track down the sound to the source and have the offending valve replaced. An alternative is to call in a plumber and have him track down the noise and correct the problem for you.
