What fashion designer would be good to study when making a circus themed costume?
I am making a circus themed costume for a-level textiles and need to research one designer for an influence (a costume designer might also be acceptable)
I hope to make a red garment with lot's of gold sequins/beading for decoration, aswell as a black cape with a feather trim round the top to go with it
so any designer who has worked with a circus theme/rich colours/use lot's of decoration (feathers/sequins etc) would be great?
Study some of the designers who created the outlandish, theatrical clothing worn by musicians in the 1970's and 1980's. I'm thinking of performers like Pattie LaBelle, Bootsy Collins and Cher.
I'm sorry that I can't remember the names of their designers! I highly recommend this book (see link below) "Getting It On: The Clothing Of Rock N Roll" by Mablen Jones. This book gives information about the designers that created the crazy looks of superstars like Bootsy Collins. I found the book at my local library.
Also look into Bob Mackie, who is well known for designing for Cher and Carol Burnett- remember the brilliant Scarlett O'Hara dress?
